I finally got a chance to see the plague like thriller last week and I have to admit it’s actually not as bad as all the critics made it out to be. Anyhow I’ve added 1,239 HQ DVD captures to the gallery. Enjoy!

If your interested you can read my thoughts on the movie after the cut.
I can agree, the movie isn’t award worthy by any means but it’s definitely not one to be pushed aside either. It has humor (sarcasm too) and angst but also a sense of reality where as the continuing spread of a deadly virus is concerned. I will admit it is odd how the movie starts off in the middle of it all but then again I’ve seen my share of movie’s which fall in comparison plot wise and it’s not a horrible change to see what’s going on after the worst as happened rather than watch two hours of it unravel. Needless to say whether you find the movie as enjoyable as I, one thing we can agree on is Chris’s talent certainly shines through no matter the caliber of the movie itself. He plays the perfect grade A jerk with a sense of urgency to protect himself and his little brother. Needless to say I think every Chris fan should give it a watch, whether it’s your cup of tea or not don’t let the previous reviews cloud your judgment.

After being dumped in theaters this past September, the Chris Pine (Star Trek) thriller Carriers is coming to rental DVD on December 8, 2009 from Paramount Home Entertainment. A full DVD release is yet to be announced, but is expected in 4 to 6 weeks after the release. Determined to escape a deadly virus, four teens set out in search of an uncontaminated refuge. As they travel across the decimated landscape of America, they encounter a truth far more horrifying than the virus they are trying to survive.

Co-starring Piper Perabo (Coyote Ugly), Emily VanCamp (“Brothers & Sisters”), and Emmy®-nominee Chris Meloni (“Law and Order: SVU”) CARRIERS is a terrifying journey into a world where laws and rules no longer apply, and no one can be trusted – not even your friends. The film was written and directed by Alex & David Pastor.

The CARRIERS DVD is presented in widescreen enhanced for 16:9 televisions with Dolby Digital English 5.1 Surround, Spanish 5.1 Surround and English, French and Spanish subtitles. The DVD will be available for sale four to six weeks after its rental street date.

Given his recent role as Captain James T. Kirk in this year’s phenomenally successful Star Trek, you’d be forgiven for forgetting that Chris Pine is an actor of many faces and of course, many roles.

Continuing their love-affair with all things Zombie, yet another scary, disease-ridden film has made it’s way down from the Hollywood Hills and stars the aforementioned Mr. Pine – and that film is CARRIERS.

In Álex & David Pastor’s CARRIERS, no one is safe from the viral pandemic threatening to wipe out the human race. Determined to elude the deadly virus, Danny (LOU TAYLOR PUCCI), his brother Brian (CHRIS PINE), his girlfriend Bobby (PIPER PERABO) and Danny’s school friend Kate (EMILY VANCAMP) speed across the Southwestern U.S. to reach a place of possible safety. Encouraged by a childhood memory, Danny has convinced the group that a secluded surfer beach in the Gulf of Mexico is their best bet. Once there, they can live peacefully and wait out the end of the virus to emerge into a new day as survivors of this apocalyptic disease.

The rules of their new world order are simple: take obscure roads; avoid contact with other humans at any cost. Yet their carefree attitudes start to wither the longer they travel, their childhood innocence slowly eroding amidst the remains of empty highways and towns, as they face battles with equally self-protective survivors or the infected reaching out in a hopeless bid for help.

Over the course of four days, the group is faced with moral decisions that no human should ever be forced to confront. They discover that their greatest enemy is not the virus attacking humanity, but the darkness they discover within themselves.

Carriers infects UK cinemas from 11th December 2009, check out the trailer below and don’t forget – stick to the rules!

source

okay well he says it’s “a good movie” not “a great movie” and he doesn’t even really talk about Chris BUT STILL. I was glad to see that someone else was also disappointed that Carriers didn’t get a wider release. Especially since that someone is a widely popular best-selling author and blogger for Entertainment Weekly. In his article this month, Mr. King bemoans the fact that small-scale, well made films like Carriers can’t even get shown in all fifty states, while Transformers 2 is playing on 5 screens at your local AMC.

I have found & collected some fairly good reviews for ‘Carriers’. You’ll find that, no, they are not praising but this film wasn’t even expected to see theater time from my knowledge until Chris’s big success in ‘Star Trek’ this past summer. I do have to say I’m pleased with the overall reviews and ratings I’ve read for ‘Carriers’, as none are insulting or ridiculing, merely a breakdown of the plot and comments on the story which the movie and the characters are trying to tell.

All four actors do a fine job fleshing out their roles, with Pine demonstrating a less appealing side of the cockiness he brought to James T. Kirk and well-matched with the spunky Perabo.

You can read the full review here @ Fangoria.com

Actually, the only bad thing about “Carriers” is its trailer, which gives moviegoers the false impression that the feature film may evolve into a zombie flick. By no stretch of the imagination does this movie belong to the horror genre. Rather, it is a methodical thriller about the humanity’s response to its own demise. And, as the movie suggests, that is the most terrifying monster of all.

You can read the full review here @ Phoenix Movie Examiner

Now, contrary to what the trailer, ad campaign, and net buzz would lead you to believe, Carriers is not a zombie movie. Yes, there is a viral epidemic and yes, it wipes out most of the human race. But rather than turning those infected into violent, mindless, flesh-eating ghouls, it simply brings them a slow and painful death. And in a way, this helps the film.

You can read the full review here @ Pittsburgh Horror Movie Examiner

Chris Pine carries the film for much of its length. As the group’s de facto leader, his character Brian is a charming prick who does anything necessary to keep himself and his brother alive. The group’s motto, “the sick are already dead,” leads this film into morally ambiguous territory and forces the characters to make difficult decisions. In this world, if the disease doesn’t get you, the survivors might.

Well this is a bummer. Carriers wasn’t even on my radar until Paramount Vantage put out a chain of intense trailers showing a world ravaged by viral pandemic. Now, according to Fangoria, I’m not even going to have the opportunity to see Chris Pine and Piper Perabo wear cute surgical masks while they try to survive the end of times. You can’t go from “What’s Carriers?” to “Man, I can’t wait to see Carriers!” to “What do you mean I can’t see Carriers?”. That’s just mean, Paramount Vantage.

But if you live in one of the following cities that isn’t Austin, TX, September 4th should be a good day to wear a surgical mask of your own to the theater and freak out everyone sitting next to you:

- Atlanta, GA
- Charlotte, NC
- Denver, CO
- Detroit, MI
- Minneapolis, MN
- Philadelphia, PA
- Pittsburgh, PA
- Phoenix, AZ
- Portland, OR
- St. Louis, MO

Oh well, guess I can find solace in the knowledge that there will be an inevitably uncut Blu-ray of Carriers, which is PG-13 theatrically. Gotta admit, though, watching the trailer below is going to make that wait a little bittersweet.

AN: I think this really sucks. I personally was looking forward to checking out this thriller but the closest showing for me would be in Charlotte, NC and that is still about 3-4 hours too far to go see a movie. I don’t think it’s fair, what do you think?

SOURCE: It’s been a pretty good day to be a horror fan. Even more good news has come to light this time from Paramount Vantage. After three years of shenanigans, The Carriers is finally being unleashed!

Look for the film starring Lou Taylor Pucci, Chris Pine, Piper Perabo and Emily VanCamp to hit theatres on September 4th, 2009!

“A deadly virus has spread across the globe. Contagion is everywhere, no one is safe and no one can be trusted. Four young attractive people race through the back roads of the American West to the pounding beat of a vacation soundtrack. Their aim is to retreat to secluded utopian beach in the Gulf of Mexico, where they could peacefully wait out the pandemic and survive the apocalyptic disease. Carriers follow their getaway through a surreal and dangerous world where laws and rules no longer apply.

Their plans take a grim turn when their car breaks down on an isolated road starting a chain of events that will seal the fate of each of them in an inexorable and horrifying voyage of hell through a western landscape populated by only the hideous dead or the twisted living. Their desperate retreat south turns into a deadly battle against infected children, homicidal doctors, crazed survivalists, rabid dogs, and, finally each other. The virus is the least of their problems as horrible choices must be made in the face of lost humanity.”
