It was reportedly going to shoot as early as February this year. Seems not.

Asked by the lovely Neala Johnson whether or not he was prepared to be ’stacked up against those who have come before’, Pine replies assuredly “Look, at the end of the day, people will obviously prefer one version over the other, whether it be Alec Baldwin or Harrison Ford or Ben Affleck. I feel the same way about Star Trek – the only thing I can do is the best version of myself. I can only bring who I am to bear on the part and people either like that or not. Again, I don’t have much control over that, so all I can ask of myself is to do my best, try my hardest and to make sure that we have a really good story to tell, and then it to the hands of fate.”

Pine doesn’t know whether or not he’ll be doing anything as physical in the film as he did on Tony Scott’s Unstoppable.

“I dunno if any trains are gonna be involved”, the actor laughs. “I dunno what’s involved quite yet, I haven’t really seen the finished script, but some assorted running, for sure”.

In a recent interview with the delightful Katey Rich at Cinema Blend, producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura mentioned that the script for the film is currently undergoing a rewrite and as yet, there’s no set date for filming.

“We’re going to shoot in the spring. There’s no set date. It’s a slow process of figuring out how much it’s going to cost and all that stuff. [It's] the same story– [Anthony Peckham] is going to bring his own particular flair to it. It is the origin story of Jack Ryan. Where you pick him up in his career is very true to what Clancy had as his backstory. You can explore some of the backstory you never had in previous movie. That will be fun for Clancy fan, and for an audience that hasn’t seen [the previous films], or seen them all in theaters. Chris Pine is going to make a great Jack Ryan. We really lucked out there.”

In Moscow, Ryan (Pine) will be fresh out of the Marines and gets himself involved in some sort of financial scandal in Russia. Apparently Wall Street plays a big part in the movie.

Recent News snippets, Chris in Vancouver and more

Blurbs

Jack Ryan / Moscow

This Means War

Here are some recent news snippets about Chris and his upcoming projects Jack Ryan and This Means War. He is in Vancouver for the his upcoming film “This Means War” also starring Reese Witherspoon and Tom Hardy which begins filming at the end of this month.

Word is that Paramount has hired a new writer for upcoming film ‘Jack Ryan’ which Chris is attached to. Recently the studio brought on Anthony Peckham, who wrote INVICTUS and did a pass on SHERLOCK HOLMES, to write a draft of the script that would center on Ryan’s early career tracking down terrorists in Russia. Paramount is hoping that Peckham can deliver a script that will finally get the project kicked into high gear. Recently Jack Bender (“Lost”) signed on to direct the film. There’s another script in existence from Adam Cozad but it’s unclear if Peckham will work off that draft or start fresh.

In a recent interview The Collider asked William Shanter if he saw echoes of his own performances as Kirk, in what Chris Pine did? William’s reply was “I appreciated his performance. I didn’t see what some people have written about, but I’m not that observant.”

Lost’s Jack Bender May Direct Chris Pine In Moscow

Blurbs

Jack Ryan / Moscow

Projects

SOURCE: LATINO REVIEW – Tom Clancy’s popular character Jack Ryan could make his way back onto the big screen with the help another Jack. “Lost” [...]

SOURCE: LATINO REVIEW – Tom Clancy’s popular character Jack Ryan could make his way back onto the big screen with the help another Jack. “Lost” director Jack Bender is in in the final strings to be on board for another Jack Ryan film. The title of it is “Moscow”, a little bit of a prequel in a sense where Jack (Chris Pine) is fresh out of the Marines and works as an analyst for a Russian billionaire. Of course things immediately get a bit tangled up as he ends up going on the run after being implicated in a terrorist plot.

There’s no word at the moment when Paramount expects to get “Moscow” off the ground.

SOURCE: CINEMA BLEND – The movie will be kind of a franchise reboot, taking place at an earlier period in Ryan’s career than what we saw in The Sum of All Fears/A Clear and Present Danger/Patriot Games/The Hunt for Red October. Pine will play Ryan just as he’s getting out of the Marines, going to work for a Russian billionaire but eventually going on the run (of course) because he’s been implicated as part of a terrorist plot. Given the huge variety of Lost episodes that Bender directed and how often he was charged with handling action, there’s pretty much no reason he won’t be up to the task of this one. Last we heard from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura they were hoping to start filming in late winter or early spring, so if things stay on course, we’ll see Bender directing Pine as Jack Ryan before his old boss J.J. Abrams turns him back into Captain Kirk.

Jack Ryan Film ‘Moscow’ to start filming soon, hopefully.

Articles

Jack Ryan / Moscow

Projects

Steve Weintraub of Collider.com Recently caught up with with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura to talk about his upcoming action thriller Salt, whom also will produce [...]

Steve Weintraub of Collider.com Recently caught up with with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura to talk about his upcoming action thriller Salt, whom also will produce Chris’s upcoming Jack Ryan project ‘Moscow’. Here is what he had to say:

Finally, I asked him what projects are bubbling up to the surface and he said the next Jack Ryan movie, Moscow, that Chris Pine is attached to and The Associate – which is a John Grisham book that Shia Labeouf’s attached to. And this movie called The Associate which is a John Grisham book that Shia Labeouf’s attached to. We’re hoping to get that off the ground shortly, too.

SW: I spoke to somebody about the Jack Ryan project and the last time I spoke it was I think I want to say it was somehow tied to Moscow? Am I wrong about that?

Lorenzo: It’s called Moscow.

That’s right. So I guess, do you guys have a script? Or just figuring out his….

Lorenzo: We have a very good script. I think it’s…I’m very happy with where we are today and we’re looking forward to…maybe with a little luck starting next late winter/early spring.

Oh this year or early next year?

Lorenzo: Of early next year, yeah.

NEWS: Details on Chris Pine’s Jack Ryan Movie

Jack Ryan / Moscow

News

Projects

Last October Paramount Pictures was in the process of locking down Star Trek star Chris Pine to play Jack Ryan, the CIA analyst character created [...]

Last October Paramount Pictures was in the process of locking down Star Trek star Chris Pine to play Jack Ryan, the CIA analyst character created by bestselling author Tom Clancy. Shortly thereafter Pine was officially the fourth actor to play Ryan after Alec Baldwin (The Hunt for Red October), Harrison Ford (Clear and Present Danger and Patriot Games), and Ben Affleck (The Sum of All Fears).

We haven’t heard much since, but a source for Pajiba has provided further details on Pine’s mission. Screenwriter Adam Cozad has stepped in to rewrite an original draft by Hossein Amini for a story that won’t be based on a Clancy novel.

The film, operating under the working title Moscow, will center on Ryan as a financial analyst to a billionaire employer in Moscow. It’s here he is framed to take the fall for a terrorist plot designed to collapse the U.S. economy. It essentially becomes a chase movie where Ryan must clear his name, prevent the terrorist attack, and save his captured wife before time runs out.

Dustin Rowles at Pajiba points out this sounds similar to Cozad’s geopolitical drama Dubai, his first script deal that sold to Lorenzo Di Bonaventura in 2007 with Star Trek villain Eric Bana attached as a producer. Other than the relocation, the two stories of a man trying to stop the collapse of the economy and prove his innocence sound extremely close.

While it’s unfortunate they aren’t returning to Clancy’s extensive library, it seems like Paramount is assembling a timely adventure for their young, rebooted franchise. Both the studio and Pine stand to reap the benefits if this becomes their second hit collaboration, so I’m curious to see who they’re lining up to direct. Sam Raimi was interested in the material before, but passed to focus on a now defunct Spider-Man 4. Maybe they can lure him back.
source: newsinfilm.com

Chris Discusses Taking Over Jack Ryan from Baldwin and Ford

Articles

Interviews

Jack Ryan / Moscow

So it’s official. First Alec Baldwin, followed by Harrison Ford, then Ben Affleck for a hot minute, and now Chris Pine. The “Star Trek” star will take over the role of Jack Ryan in the first adaptation of Tom Clancy’s book series since 2002′s “The Sum of All Fears.”

Just before this confirmation dropped—courtesy of producer Mace Neufeld—MTV News spoke with Pine about the prospect of becoming Ryan on-screen. After blowing people away with his reworking of William Shatner’s iconic take on James T. Kirk, how hard could it be to make Ryan his own? No easy feat, Pine said, but undoubtedly less daunting than his “Star Trek” challenge.

“I think it’s because Mr. Shatner’s portrayal of the character was so specific, [Jack Ryan] is a different beast,” Pine explained. “If you were to poll people, I think eight out of 10 people could tell you what role Shatner made famous. I think a lot fewer people could make that specific association between those actors and Jack Ryan. As great a job as those actors did, it’s just a different deal.”

Is there one Ryan –- Baldwin in “The Hunt for Red October,” Ford in “Patriot Games” and “Clear and Present Danger” — that stands out for Pine as the finest take on this CIA superstar? “No hyperbole, I like ‘em both so much,” Pine said of the first two Ryan actors. “They’re both huge heroes of mine. But I might prefer Baldwin doing the Canteen Boy sketch on ‘SNL’ the most!”

Prior to Neufeld’s confirmation, Pine wasn’t privy to many details about the still-untitled Ryan project. He did confirm that filmmakers are waiting on a new draft and said his involvement came about out of nowhere, after a call he received one night saying producers were interested. And Pine was excited.

“I certainly love the character and I’ve always been a fan of stories about international intrigue,” he said.

“The past few years have been such a whirlwind and now to maybe be offered Jack Ryan, it’s such a huge step in my career and something that would not have happened if ['Star Trek' director] J.J. Abrams hadn’t taken a chance on me.”

Is the world ready for Chris Pine as Jack Ryan? What do you think the “Star Trek” star might bring to the role that we haven’t seen before?

source: mtv movies blog

Details on the Next Jack Ryan Film

General

Jack Ryan / Moscow

Producer Mace Neufeld spoke this morning at the Invictus press conference where he also updated the status of the next Jack Ryan film, set to [...]

Producer Mace Neufeld spoke this morning at the Invictus press conference where he also updated the status of the next Jack Ryan film, set to star Chris Pine</a.

Neufeld confirmed that the new as-of-yet-untitled project will not be based on a Tom Clancy novel but will, instead, be an original screenplay.

The character of Jack Ryan has previously appeared in the Clancy adaptations The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger and The Sum of All Fears, the latter of which represented a previous attempt to reboot the franchise with a younger actor in the lead. Neufeld says that, while the plan is still to skew young with the casting of Pine, the story will not be an “origin story.”

“We pick him up when he’s on Wall Street,” says Neufeld, “…[but] the Jack Ryan movies have never been action films. They’re kind of ‘thinking man’s thrillers.’ Jack is referred to as a ‘water-walker’ because of his ability to jump ahead to conclusions. That’s very big in all the Jack Ryan films and that’s how we want to portray him. He’s a teacher. He’s a historian. He’s a linguist. And he’s really smart.”

The first draft has been completed by Hossein Amini and a rewrite by Adam Cozad is set to start soon.
source: comingsoon.net
