Two more actors have joined the cast of the runaway train movie, with Jessy Schram and the under-rated Kevin Dunn bolstering the big-name trio already on board. That would be Denzel Washington, Chris Pine and Rosario Dawson, in case you didn’t know. Washington and Pine will play an engineer and conductor, respectively, who must band together to stop their train, laden with toxic chemicals, from crashing into a nearby city. That would be Bad. Dawson signed on this week to play a train dispatcher, a la Washington in The Taking Of Pelham 123, who helps the boys out via radio. Dunn, who was one of the few moving parts it was enjoyable to watch in Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen, will play Dawson’s boss. Schram will play Pine’s estranged wife. Mark Bomback wrote the script for a movie that seems so gloriously uncomplicated that it might have made do with an instruction manual. But it’s Tony’n’Denzel, and so this is high on our must-see list. Filming on the Fox thriller will start this autumn in Pittsburgh. Aug

Dawson just wrapped Chris Columbus film “Percy Jackson” and is currently shooting “Zookeeper” opposite Kevin James for MGM and Sony. She was last seen in “Seven Pounds” with Will Smith. Washington formally withdrew from “Unstoppable” in early July, then came to terms two weeks later to put the pic back on track for a fall start. He’s playing a veteran engineer who jumps into a locomotive with a young conductor (Pine) to stop an unmanned runaway train loaded with toxic cargo. Julie Yorn is producing with Scott and Mimi Rogers, and Chris Ciaffa is exec producer. The script, penned by Mark Bomback, is loosely inspired by true events. Aug

Chris Pine talked “Star Trek” with the Dish Rag at the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn.’s annual installation luncheon, during which the group hands out gobs of cash to deserving charities. “The big thing I’ve been surprised by is is how many people who weren’t fans who we were able to grab into the fold,” Pine said. “To make ‘Star Trek’ accessible to a wider audience and to a new generation of fans is a wonderful thing, and I’m looking forward to getting back into the second one.” What’s the scoop on the new “Star Trek 2″? “I know as much as anybody else,” Pine admitted. “They want to get stuff going for 2011 so I don’t know if that means we’ll shoot next year or what, but I haven’t heard anything one way or the other.” Is the whole cast coming back? “As far as I know, yeah.” All we’ve heard is that the immortal phrase “He’s dead, Jim” will probably be uttered and that “Heroes” star Greg Grunberg is pushing to play the classic ST villain Harry Mudd. You remember Mudd, don’t you? He’s the character who let all those trilling Tribbles loose on the Enterprise. Does this mean there will be Tribbles? We can’t wait!! Next up for Chris is “Unstoppable,” which he starts shooting in the fall. “To be doing a movie with Denzel Washington and Tony Scott is like a kid’s dream,” he says. “I’ve watched and been a fan of both of theirs for as long as I can remember.” Then there’s “Carriers,” which Chris describes as “a post-apocalyptic, psychological thriller … it’s been a busy, fulfilling year.” At the luncheon, he was accepting a check for the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television. “The HFPA is making a generous grant and my sister and my mom both went to UCLA, so I’m happy to be a part of it.” How much do we love this guy? Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Denzel is back on for ‘Unstoppable’, isn’t that awesome?!
AN: Also if things look a little funky it’s because the new design is currently in the works and will be up in a few days if not sooner. So just sit tight and stay tuned Jul

We can’t say it enough: Don’t tempt fate by giving your movie an name that could come back to bite it. The Denzel Washington movie “Unstoppable” has been, yes, stopped, according to the trades. Fox is claiming budget issues have stalled production on the movie, which was still in the conceptual stages. Washington and “Star Trek” star Chris Pine were attached as a veteran engineer and his protege, respectively, who are tasked with stopping a runaway train full of toxic chemicals. That concept, plus the presumably high costs of the movie’s stars, apparently raised red flags at the Fox accounting department. The studio claims it’s working to get the film back on track for less cash. source: zap2it.com AN: I had just recently confirmed with Chris’s publicist that he was indeed in negotiations for the movie. |
