AN: Just so everyone is aware I know MTV is pretty reliable but I’m waiting on a confirmation from his Publicist just to be sure since a few projects listed on his IMDB page are incorrect.
Both Denzel Washington and Chris Pine presented Golden Popcorn statues at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, and if all goes according to plan, the two actors will be working much more closely together in the fall. MTV News has learned exclusively that Pine has signed on to Denzel’s upcoming thriller based on a true story, “Unstoppable.”
“I’m going to shoot a movie in the fall called ‘Unstoppable’ — me and Tony Scott — and Chris Pine’s going to do it with us,” Washington revealed backstage at the Gibson Amphitheatre. “I hope I’m not speaking out of line. I think they made a deal with him, and I’m supposed to meet him next week.”
While Denzel has not yet seen Pine as the new James T. Kirk in “Star Trek,” he said, “That’s the one movie I do want to see this summer.”
This would appear to be Pine’s first post-“Trek” role. Pine’s rep and 20th Century Fox didn’t return MTV News’ requests for comment by press time.
Following “The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3,” which comes out June 12, “Unstoppable” would mark the fifth collaboration between Washington and Scott.
“It’s like a good marriage,” Washington said. “We work well together. We trust each other. He knows how to put ’em together. He knows how to make hits. And he called me!”
Scott described “Unstoppable” to MTV News as ” ‘Speed’ on steroids.” “If ‘Pelham 1 2 3’ will put you on the edge of your seat, this one will put you in CPR in the back of the theater.”
Washington is set to star as a veteran engineer who hooks up with a young train conductor to stop a runaway train carrying a payload of toxic chemicals. It’s unclear if Pine would play the conductor. The script was written by “Live Free or Die Hard” scribe Mark Bomback.
“It’s based on a real event,” Scott said. “So it’s a real story. I’m going to shoot it like a documentary. Remember ‘Touching the Void’?”
The harrowing true story about two mountain climbers stranded in the Peruvian Andes, “Touching the Void” mixed documentary-style interviews with the real-life survivors and re-enacted events with actors.
“So I’m going to steal from everybody!” Scott declared.

Yeah, this is the third time today I’ve heard of it. I really like Denzel and Chris, of course, so if it is true, I’ll definitely end up seeing it anyway. =)
