The news has been reporting that a third Princess Diaries movie might come in our way, and while we’re SO excited for it, let’s put together everything we know so far about the rumoured sequel.

There’s already a scipt
Author of The Princess Diaries book series, Meg Cabot, told Entertainment Weekly that a script exists. She also said that if the film gets made, it’ll happen “kind of as a tribute” to Garry Marshall, director of the first two movies, who sadly passed away in 2016. But Cabot refused to reveal any further details, apart from saying that the film would likely deviate from the book series. She said, “I think of them as two different universes.”

Garry Marshall was planning the third instalment before he died
Last year, before his passing, Garry Marshall talked to People magazine about this time placing Princess Mia Thermopolis in Manhatthan. “I was with Anne Hathaway a couple weeks ago, it looks like we want to do Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan. Anne is very pregnant, so we have to wait until she has the baby and then I think we’re going to do it.” Maybe they still follow his idea, as part of the tribute.

Anne Hathaway has an idea for the sequel
Julie Andrews, who plays Queen Clarisse Renaldi in the movies, told Buzzfeed in February 2017, “Annie [Hathaway] had an idea that she wanted to pursue about it, and I’m all for it, so if she’d like to… I would very willingly and happily do it.”

Chris Pine is open to it.
The most important thing of all this discussion is: will Nicholas Devereaux back on this 3rd movie? If Chris Pine has a voice on it, the answer is yes. In January 2016, during a fan Q&A for Entertainment Weekly, Pine was asked “Don’t you pray every night for a Princess Diaries 3?” to which he replied, “Have you been reading my diary?”

Mandy Moore would consider a cameo
In July 2017, Moore told ELLE.com, “If I’m going to be involved, I would be down for a cameo—maybe she could make amends with Mia and apologise for being a bully when she was younger. She was insecure, going through a difficult time in her life and [has now] reflected on why that wasn’t okay.”

Princess Mia’s best friend Lilly Moscovitz would come back
In July 2016, Heather Matarazzo, who played Princess Mia’s best friend Lilly Moscovitz, told Cosmopolitan that she would definitely return for another sequel. She said, “If Annie and Julie are down, of course.”

We’re ready!
