Chris Pine appears on the November cover of DETAILS magazine in a photo shoot with Matthias Vriens-McGrath that took place at a private home in Thousand Oaks, California. Pine earned his stripes in last year’s Star Trek, attracted some of Hollywood’s big guns to the theater this summer, and is set to step into the role as Tom Clancy’s “Jack Ryan” when the franchise is resurrected. Now, he appears opposite Denzel Washington in Unstoppable—a title that nicely describes the career trajectory of this handsome young star.

Interviewer Howie Kahn discovered that this month’s cover subject had done his homework before their meeting. “He quoted my own work back to me,” says Kahn. “Obscure quotes, too, that made me think he had really gotten into the trenches of Google.” Khan met with Chris while he was working on “The Lieutenant of Inishmore,” the Martin McDonagh play that ran this summer at the Mark Taper Forum in downtown Los Angeles. Chris arrived for the interview in Ray-Bans, a white Hanes T-shirt, American Apparel hoodie, and mesh athletic shorts. The actor shifted in his seat to accommodate his pulled muscles from the play. “My body’s all sorts of fu**ed-ip,” Pine said. “I tore my groin. I pulled my neck and my glute, tweaked my rhomboid, sprained my fu**ing sacrum.”

More Highlights from the article:
On dating: “I’m single and very happy about it. It’s a good time to be single. I have a lot of friends getting married right now, having babies. But I think I’ll be more like … the George Clooney.”

On loosening up: “I feel prematurely old. I’m actually having this major belated quarter-life crisis. I’m turning 30 in a couple of weeks. I’ve been thinking a lot about mortality. A lot about what I’m going to do with my life and how to enjoy it. One of the things I’m going to work on is being more spontaneous, letting go, embracing the beauty of come-what-may.”

“Sometimes I think I need to get crazy. Go to Vegas. Do some drugs. Get some hookers. Gamble it all away. And it never happens. I usually just end up at home on my couch—reading.”

“I remember him asking a lot of questions. Questions for the director. Questions about the script. ‘What about this?’ ‘What about that?’ He kind of woke me up. I used to ask those questions.” – Denzel Washington

“Chris is a stand-alone. A star. He’s beautiful and sexy. He’s got mystery and darkness. He’s got everything.” – Tony Scott

Star Trek‘s Chris Pine is in “preliminary discussions” to star in the upcoming family drama Welcome to People, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Alex Kurtzman, who wrote the screenplay with Roberto Orci and Jody Lambert, is set to direct.

Welcome to People is about a man who, per his recently deceased father’s will, has to bring $150,000 to an alcoholic sister he didn’t know he had. He then involves himself in her life and the life of her “angry 12-year-old son,” without letting on about their family connection.

Here are some recent news snippets about Chris and his upcoming projects Jack Ryan and This Means War.

Chris was spotted arriving at the Vancouver airport Sunday (Sept. 19th) evening. He is in Vancouver for the his upcoming film “This Means War” also starring Reese Witherspoon and Tom Hardy which begins filming at the end of this month.

Word is that Paramount has hired a new writer for upcoming film ‘Jack Ryan’ which Chris is attached to. Recently the studio brought on Anthony Peckham, who wrote INVICTUS and did a pass on SHERLOCK HOLMES, to write a draft of the script that would center on Ryan’s early career tracking down terrorists in Russia. Paramount is hoping that Peckham can deliver a script that will finally get the project kicked into high gear. Recently Jack Bender (“Lost”) signed on to direct the film. There’s another script in existence from Adam Cozad but it’s unclear if Peckham will work off that draft or start fresh.

In a recent interview The Collider asked William Shanter if he saw echoes of his own performances as Kirk, in what Chris Pine did? William’s reply was “I appreciated his performance. I didn’t see what some people have written about, but I’m not that observant.”
