At a panel for the animated movie “Quantum Quest,” the new Captain Kirk, Chris Pine, called co-director Dr. Harry Kloor, who promptly put his cellphone up to the microphone — so that Pine could address the crowd and promote the movie.

Pine went over points including his desire to be a voiceover actor (“Cause they always looked like they were having the most fun.”), the funny faces he made while in the voiceover booth, and his newfound respect and interest in science because of his participation in the movie (“If I had had a movie like this when I was younger, I may have been more into it.”)

The panel included Robert Picardo of “Star Trek Voyager” and Doug Jones of many things (“Hellboy”). The movie itself is a star-studded event that includes the voices of William Shatner (when Kirks collide!), Jason Alexander, Samuel L. Jackson, Hayden Christensen, Amanda Peet, James Earl Jones, and astronaut Neil Armstrong. The notoriously reclusive Armstorng even sent along a video supporting both the movie and advancements in scienctific education.

People Magazine spotted Chris dropping in on co-star Zachary Quinto!

• Leave it to Capt. Kirk to crash Mr. Spock’s party! Chris Pine interrupted Star Trek costar Zachary Quinto’s lunch with a pal at Lamill in L.A.’s Silver Lake neighborhood. But it was a welcome surprise and the trio were “conversing like friends,” a fellow diner says. After the meal, Quinto took off at warp speed . . . on his bike!

This was posted by People Magazine. 🙂

Chris Pine, diving into some mini-burgers while hanging out at the Luxe Hotel Sunset Boulevard for the Girls Night Out party. There with some guy pals and castmates from his new play, Farragut North, Pine chilled out on the patio, looking relaxed in his white T-shirt and gray vest.

We can’t say it enough: Don’t tempt fate by giving your movie an name that could come back to bite it.

The Denzel Washington movie “Unstoppable” has been, yes, stopped, according to the trades.

Fox is claiming budget issues have stalled production on the movie, which was still in the conceptual stages. Washington and “Star Trek” star Chris Pine were attached as a veteran engineer and his protege, respectively, who are tasked with stopping a runaway train full of toxic chemicals.

That concept, plus the presumably high costs of the movie’s stars, apparently raised red flags at the Fox accounting department. The studio claims it’s working to get the film back on track for less cash.

AN: I had just recently confirmed with Chris’s publicist that he was indeed in negotiations for the movie.

At that point in the interview, Chris Pine walked into the room. The 28-year-old actor, who plays Stephen and appeared two years ago at the Geffen in a production of Neil Labute’s “Fat Pig,” is a lot more in demand these days as a result of his much-praised portrayal of the young James T. Kirk in the just-released big-screen blockbuster “Star Trek.”

“This guy is tremendous,” Noth said of Pine. “He’s really good at it; brings all kinds of dimensions to the role. He was born to be onstage.”
